KAIAPOI GALLERY
Kaiapoi Gallery
In and around Kaiapoi – images old and new have been supplied by local photographers and show the Kaiapoi river, the Tuhoe, points of interest etc
One image provided by (David Stuthridge) shows Norman Kirk
“Norman Kirk’s old house still stands in Carew Street Kaiapoi. Considered by some to have been NZ’s finest Prime Minister, Kirk was the Mayor of Kaiapoi 1953-57 and became Prime Minister of NZ 1972 before his death in 8/74 at the age of 51. He built the house himself. Unable to afford a builder. He biked between shifts at the Firestone Tyre factory balancing timber on his handle bars. A truly remarkable hero of Kaiapoi”
The gallery shows how proud Kaiapoi residents are when it comes to their township..#lovekaiapoi #327
